Last fall was a really good crop year for acorns in my area. As I walked through the woods while hunting I saw acorns everywhere. I couldn't resist decided pick up a few here and there and throw them in my pockets. In about an hour I had filled my pockets with about 30 acorns. I had never learned how to properly cultivate a tree from a seed, but I thought that since I am an arborist I should be able to grow a tree. So I put the acorns in some potting soil, and left them in my garage for the winter. After the snow melted this spring I brought the pot full of acorns in the house and set them in the window. I watered the acorns for about a month until with no results, and I figured I did something wrong and none of them would grow. After about six weeks one tree started to sprout up from the soil. Out of 30 acorns only one started growing, which is not too good, but I am pretty happy that I was able to get at least one tree to grow. I consider this to be my very first tree, and I look forward to it growing into a mature majestic oak.
